About Colonic Hydrotherapy
Your colon is the sewage system of your body. If the waste in your colon builds up it putrefies, ferments and absorbs through the porous wall of your colon into your bloodstream leading to ‘autotoxaemia’ or ‘self-poisoning’.
These toxins can pollute your brain and nervous system causing you to become depressed, irritable, tired and unmotivated. They may also pollute your lungs affecting breathing; your digestive system causing you to become distressed and bloated, as well as being unable to digest and assimilate the nutrients from your food. These toxins also pollute the blood creating sallow and unhealthy skin. Overall, the organs of your body may become stressed, deeply affecting their ability to perform their roles in maintaining your good health.
About the treatment
Colon Hydrotherapy is a rejuvenating, relaxing and highly effective treatment of internally cleansing the colon with the treatment administered by our experienced therapist Nyree George. The colon is cleansed via the rectum – this occurs as a series of warm, filtered water infusions where the colon is alternately filled and emptied. Treatments are combined with a soothing abdominal massage further encouraging the removal of hardened faecal matter and build-ups of gas and mucous.
Duration of treatment
Treatments last approximately 50 minutes and are comfortable and safe. The Colon Hydrotherapy equipment used has volume and temperature regulation, a multi-filtering system and the tubing/speculum kit is sterile and disposable.
Does it hurt?
Occasionally discomfort is felt as the bowel contracts (peristalsis) to move out waste. For some this can feel like cramping or perhaps like wind pain.
Can I still have a colonic if I have my period?
Absolutely! During menstruation is a great time for a colonic at it supports the detox process the body is already experiencing.
Does a colonic get rid of the good beneficial bowel bacteria?
You will lose some of the good bacteria during a colonic. However you will also rid yourself of far more bad bacteria with the good bacteria replenishing easily in 2-3 days. For ongoing colonic therapy, supplementation with a probiotic may be recommended depending on the number of treatments or the health issues being addressed.
How will I feel afterwards?
Some people may feel a little tired afterwards, others can feel exhilarated and energised, either response is normal. The detox affect of the colonic process will affect each person differently depending upon their level of health.
Will I be ok to work afterwards?
The majority of people feel fine to go to work afterwards.
Will I need to keep going to the toilet?
Generally not. Every attempt is made to leave the bowel as empty as possible. Some people do however, occasionally experience the need to have a few more bowel movements.
I have Diverticular Disease, can I still have a colonic?
Colonic hydrotherapy is generally fine with Diverticular disease as long as it isn’t in an inflamed active phase.
When is Colonic Hydrotherapy not advised?
It isn’t advisable to have colonics if you have Diverticulitis, Crohn’s Disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, a painful fissure, aggravated haemorrhoids or ulcerative colitis.
